Please note, kitten season has only just started so we have limited kittens to adopt.
For regular updates please check out our Facebook page
Adopting a kitten is a great way to help reduce the population of stray and wild kittens, give a kitten a second chance at a happy life, and gain a loving new companion all at the same time.
All you need to do is complete the online application form. We will then be in contact to discuss your application and answer any questions you may have. This process allows us to pair you with the right kitten for your family.
If you choose to continue with your adoption, we do ask for an Adoption Donation of $160 for a singleton or $300 for a pair. This helps us to cover the costs of desexing, microchip insertion, their first vaccination, up to date flea and worm treatments, six weeks free pet insurance (if the kitten is under 20 weeks) and a take home goodie bag to help get you started.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding the adoption process.
Unfortunately not all of our rescues are suited to the indoor life.
That’s why we are often on the look out for outdoor homes for our Barn Cats.
Ever considered using an all natural pest control?
We have healthy, spayed and neutered cats in desperate need of outdoor homes. These cats are unsocial to humans and are best suited to live on a farm, lifestyle block, orchard, vineyard, horse stables or other suitable outdoor location.
Veterinary care has been given to all our barn cats to ensure they are healthy and desexed before arriving at their new home.
Your responsibility will be to provide daily food, water and protection from the elements. They will repay you by keeping your pest population down.
After a short period of secure confinement, the cat will learn that this is their new home. WWT will assist you while the cat makes this transition.
Please help us save a feral cat’s life!
Fostering means providing a temporary home for kittens for an agreed period of time or until he or she is adopted. We prefer for kittens to be fostered in litters, whether this is 2, 3 or more.
As fosters are the backbone of Wild Whiskers Tauranga, it is our goal to provide the best experience possible.
We provide everything necessary including equipment, supplies, advice and support.
What do fosters need to provide?
What does Wild Whiskers Tauranga provide?
How old will the kitten(s) be?
Wild Whiskers Tauranga only rehabilitate stray and wild kittens under eight weeks of age.
However, depending on how old the kitten/s are, when they were caught and brought into foster, and their progress will depend on how much time they are with you and therefore how old they are.
How much time do I need to spend with a foster kitten?
As much time as you can. The amount of time will vary depending on your foster(s) needs.
Can I foster even if I have a full-time job?
This will depend on the age, temperament and needs of the kitten(s).
How long will the kitten(s) need to be in foster care?
It varies, depending on the age and how fast they are rehabilitated. Normally between 2-8 weeks.
What if I can no longer foster or my foster(s) aren’t working out?
That’s fine, we will work with you to resolve any issues or to arrange another foster. However, we do ask for your understanding and patience as we may not have an immediate alternative.
How often does my foster kitten/cat need to go to the Vet?
This depends on the age and health of your foster kitten(s) but it’s normally only once. Wild Whiskers Tauranga will co-ordinate with you to ensure vet visits work for you.
Can I take my foster kitten(s) to my Vet?
No. All fosters need to go to the vet clinic as specified and organised by Wild Whiskers.
Can I let my foster kitten/cat play with my personal pets?
We advise that you either wait for a two week quarantine period and/or consult with your veterinarian before introducing your foster(s) to your own pets. If your personal pet becomes ill while you are fostering we are unable to provide medical care or cover any expenses occured.
What if I want to adopt my foster kitten/cat?
Fosters have first priority when it comes to adoption. However, you will still need to complete an adoption application form and follow the adoption process.
Will it be hard to say goodbye to my foster(s)?
Saying goodbye can be the most difficult part of fostering, but keep in mind that there are many more that need wonderful foster homes like yours!
Thank you for considering becoming a foster parent for Wild Whiskers Tauranga!
